High Growth Medical Technologies
While medical technologies, including medical devices, biomaterials, biotech, hybrids of these and others, are often viewed as "safe investments" (when money is tight, you can hold off on that new car purchase, but can you hold off on getting that new heart pacemaker?), there are some technologies that are clearly growing in use (and sales) at moderately to much higher rates. Some technologies are growing faster because they are very new and offer considerable advantage (cost, benefit or both) over what technologies were available previously (if any were available). Some technologies are growing faster because of nothing to do with the technology and everything to do with growth in the patient population (e.g., growing numbers of elderly or growing prevalence of obesity).
